What will be the challenges and developments in the fields of sensors and measurement systems for the chemical industry until the year 2015?

This question was answered by a joint working group of NAMUR and the VDI/VDE Gesellschaft Mess- und Automatisierungstechnik (GMA – Society for Measurement and Automation Systems). The first "technology roadmap" for process sensors was presented at the 2005 GMA Congress in Baden-Baden (see presentation, German only).
A unique process brought together the perspectives of users and manufacturers, i.e. the market and technologies. Jointly identified measurement tasks were assessed in terms of the expected frequency of application and the associated potential benefits. This highlights the need for development activities by manufacturers, as well as research efforts and standardisation work. This has shown that major technological developments can be expected in particular in the field of process analytics.
