Abstract to NE 154 ‘Functional Safety in Batch Processes’
(Edition: 2016-02-01)

Batch processes pose a challenge on implementing SISs, since batch produced products often require the selection of different trip points and/or SIFs depending on the recipe being used or the phase the process is in. However, the relevant safety standards (e.g. IEC 61511-1) do not explicitly make a distinction between functional safety in batch processes and functional safety in continuous processes.
This recommendation describes an approach to implement SIFs in batch processes.
