WG 1.12 Automation of Modular Plants

Focus

The "Automation of Modular Plants" working group addresses issues including the following topics in the context of its experience exchange, its concept developments, formulation of requirements to be met by automation solutions and its involvement in national and international standardisation:

  • Description of automation engineering requirements for modular systems from the point of view of NAMUR
  • Illustration of the opportunities, advantages and the effort and outlay associated with modularisation from the point of view of automation engineering
  • Examination of the latest engineering standards with a focus on missing modules or modules to be expanded with regard to complete modularity
  • Description of a roadmap of necessary development steps from the point of view of users in the area of automation engineering
  • Positioning of NAMUR with regard to a practical degree of modularisation of the automation of modular systems
  • Promotion of the establishment of non-proprietary standards for the modularisation of automation systems and their interfaces

Advantages

  • Mapping of future development in the area of automation engineering through description of the requirements involved from the point of view of users
  • Greater flexibility with regard to the use of modular automation engineering through the harmonisation of interfaces and functional design
  • Minimising of long-term costs in the lifecycle of a modular system through the use of flexible modules which are easier to replace
  • Quicker acceptance of open standards relating to the automation engineering of modular systems through harmonised user requirements
