from 2023-07-17

The NAMUR Recommendation NE 130 has been revised and may now be obtained from the NAMUR Office.

Abstract NE 130 ‘Selection of field devices for safety instrumented systems taking prior use into account’
(Edition: 2023-07-14)

Prior use has its history in the legitimation of the use of devices in safety instrumented systems that did not meet the requirements of DIN EN 61508. The use of devices that have been tried and tested in operation is a very effective method that has been proved for decades to avoid systematic faults, especially in the area of the process connection of field devices. The suitability for widespread use in the process industry can usually be guaranteed neither by the manufacturer nor by a certificate. DIN EN 61511-1 only contains basic requirements on the subject of operational experience.

The target of NAMUR recommendation 130 is to specify the requirements for the use of field devices and serves as an aid for the user. The NAMUR recommendation 130 provides a selection of possible options for qualifying field devices in safety instrumented systems in process plants.
