Who needs "NAMUR.smart ?

NAMUR.smart is an ingenious tool for monitoring your safety systems: It calculates the performance of safety instrumented systems, helps to detect failures on devices or entire device series at an early stage and enables the determination of real life failure rates of safety subsystems to determine the probability of failure on demand (PFD).

How well do your safety devices actually work? Are you really achieving the planned risk reduction with your safety measures or are you just lucky that nothing happens? NAMUR.smart answers all of this.

In addition, NAMUR.smart supports to meet normative requirements for the Functional Safety Management: according to IEC 61511-1 5.2.5.3, the performance of the safety instrumented systems needs to be assessed.

"IEC 61511 is far too complicated – I prefer to stick to VDI/VDE 2180."

That's great too! This also requires failure data management – see VDI/VDE 2180-2 chapter 9.4. NAMUR.smart provides a very convenient basis for this. This also makes it much easier to test the effectiveness of Functional Safety Management, which is required by TRBS 1115 A2.5. It is not mandatory to use NAMUR.smart as a basis for this. However, NAMUR.smart saves developing and operating own evaluation processes for Functional Safety Management.

NAMUR.smart is part of the overall functional safety concept and an integral part of Functional Safety Management. The most important basis in functional safety is the avoidance of failures. After all, our safety instrumented systems should work when they are needed. Regardless of what failures are found in devices – NAMUR.smart helps to identify:

Systematic faults in procedures, design and planning, operation or maintenance can be analyzed in NAMUR.smart. Processes can be improved so that these errors do not re-occur in the future. Failures in devices influence the selection of devices for safety functions in the future.

Random faults on devices can be realistically quantified with NAMUR.smart. This means that you do not need to use generic failure rates when determining the probability of failure on demand (PFD).

Failure rates from the real operation of the devices can be used. NAMUR.smart was designed by users for users and is constantly improving. Special attention was also paid to data protection and security. After all, no one wants to make their failures public.

Since its launch, more than 120 companies feed their plant data and fault messages into NAMUR.smart. That’s a statistical basis!

"NAMUR.smart is expensive", "With NAMUR.smart, every operator must have their own license." – not true!

Companies pay an annual fee, including licenses for all employees. The price depends only on the number of safety instrumented functions. The price table is public and can be found HERE

It's worth it!
