NE192 “Functional Safety Information Model” is newly published
The NAMUR recommendation NE192 from WG 1.3 Information Management and Tools has been newly published and can now be obtained from the office.
Abstract to NE 192 "Functional Safety Information Model"
Nowadays, the asset lifecycle often is based on drawings and Excel lists. During planning and operation, many disciplines are involved, working in different systems. Many iterative handovers are necessary between these systems – therefore, an integrated data flow is desirable to reduce manual efforts. Digitalization relies on data exchange in an automated and autonomous way. Interoperability as a key prerequisite for digitalization initiatives to be successful involves standardizing information models.
Currently, there is no information model for functional safety in the process industry. In engineering, separate tools are often used for documenting risk assessments, for SIL verification, and for creating test plans. This information is needed in the CAE tool for PLT planning to ensure that appropriate devices are systematically selected and correctly wired. In practice, changes often occur during the engineering process, for example, due to incoming supplier documentation. This results in a high manual effort to keep the existing systems up to date. During the operational phase, experiences with PLT safety devices must be regularly compared with the assumptions made during planning. This requires considering both the information from engineering and the results of tests and fault reports.
This NE defines an information model for defining the functionality and the specification of PCT safety functions and PCT safety devices and for documenting their use “in operation”, including:
- Information on the Safety Requirement Specification in accordance with IEC 61511
- Input data for PFD calculations (device parameters as well as design and application-dependent parameters)
- Information for proof tests
- Preparation of Reports on malfunctions in the Safety Instrumented System
