NE 189 is newly published

from 2022-12-16

The NAMUR Recommendation NE 189 has been released and may now be obtained from the NAMUR Office.

Abstract to NE 189 "Frequency converters"

Frequency converters were initially only used for speed-adjustable operation of three-phase induction motors. Since speed-adjustable drives can also achieve high energy savings, frequency converters are increasingly being used for these applications as well.

The NAMUR recommendation "Frequency converters" summarizes the revised NAMUR recommendations NE 37 "Realization of Frequency Converters – Standard Terminal Strip for variable-speed drives", NE 38 "Frequency Converter Design – Voltage Stress Limits of Motors on Impulse Converters" and NE 108 "Power Lines for Frequency Converters" and supplements them with the requirements for frequency converters.

The following points are described in more detail:

  • Specification requirements (general, design and electrical requirements) for frequency converters
  • Assignment of interfaces
  • Operating concepts
  • Design instructions to avoid interference of signal cables by power cables
  • Use of drives in potentially explosive atmospheres

NE 37, NE 38 and NE 108 are withdrawn with this publication.
