Abstract NE 100 ‘Application of a modular plant engineering concept in production-related logistics’
(Edition: 2022-12-02)

Due to the market demand for greater flexibility and individuality, modular production systems are now being implemented in the process industry. The resulting potential can only be used if the associated logistics processes are made equally flexible. In order to implement modular automation technology, the module type package (MTP) was developed for production systems as a manufacturer-neutral module description for process engineering modules. With the help of the MTP, a module can be seamlessly integrated into a higher-level automation level.

NE 171 describes the automation requirements for the application of the modular system concept in production-related logistics, the possible uses of the MTP as well as the need for adjustments for its use in logistics. In order to advance the modularization of production-related logistics systems from an automation point of view, it is necessary to further develop the concept of the MTP and its use. On the other hand, it is necessary that the described requirements and solution approaches such as the MTP are taken up by the manufacturers of logistics systems and taken into account in future product generations. In both respects, the recommendation should make its contribution and advance the plug & operate principle through production-related logistics systems that can be interconnected and reconfigured with little effort.
