NA163 IT Security Risk Assessment for Safety-Related PCT Equipment has been revised

Abstract to NA 163 “IT Security Risk Assessment for Safety-Related PCT Equipment”

Functional safety can be compromised by cyber-attacks. NAMUR developed NA163 1.0 accordingly back in 2017, which has subsequently become the reference document for plant operators and authorities.

The second edition is now available. New in NA163 is the assessment of systems whose logic systems (controller, PLC) or programming devices (engineering station) are used for both operational automation technology and functional safety (SIL1 - SIL3). In addition, NA163 is designed in such a way that the user can assume that it complies with the German regulations TRBS 1115-1 and KAS51. NA163 is based on the architectures of BSI Grundschutz Chemie.

The aim of the NAMUR Worksheet NA163 is:

• to ensure a sufficient level of cyber resilience for safety systems
• to be able to carry out an IT risk assessment for a company within one day
• to be able to carry out a risk assessment without special cybersecurity expertise
• Proof of conformity with TRBS 1115-1 and KAS 51
